Derby Set to Get Major New Indoor Skatepark as Flo Launches Crowdfunder

Derby’s skate community has something big to look forward to as plans take shape for a new indoor skatepark in the city centre. The project, led by Flo Charitable Trust, the same team behind Nottingham’s Flo Skatepark, will see part of the old Eagle Market turned into a dedicated space for skaters of all levels. While Rollersnakes already has its own smaller indoor setup, this new project promises to be on a completely different scale, offering a full-size park built with community sessions, coaching and creative workshops in mind. It’s a much-needed development for Derby’s growing skate scene, giving skaters a central spot to ride year-round without worrying about the rain or getting moved on from the streets.

The design includes a vert ramp as one of its main features, a rare addition for indoor parks in the Midlands. There will also be a bowl and transition area, giving skaters a smooth flow space to build speed and link tricks, alongside a modular street plaza designed for creative setups that can be reconfigured over time. The aim is to create a layout that works for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced riders, and that can evolve with the community. Plans also include a reception area, toilets and classroom space for workshops and events, making it a complete venue rather than just a skate zone.

Flo’s crowdfunding campaign aims to raise £20,000 to cover materials, labour and design costs, with strong backing already coming in from Skateboard GB, Sport England and local retailer Rollersnakes. Over £5,000 has been pledged so far, and Sport England has promised to match a portion of the total once the milestone is reached. If the campaign hits its goal, the skatepark could open before the end of the year, bringing new life to the old Eagle Market and putting Derby firmly on the map for skate culture in the Midlands.

The project isn’t just about ramps and rails. Flo aims to make the park a welcoming social hub that promotes creativity, inclusivity and mental wellbeing through skateboarding. Plans include youth workshops, training programmes and community events designed to make the space accessible to everyone, no matter their background or ability. With Derby’s strong alternative roots and history of underground culture, the park feels like the next natural step in the city’s creative growth.
