Derby is heading into a huge Bank Holiday weekend for skateboarding, beginning with the return of Rollersnakes’ Cash Rules Everything Around Me Jam on Saturday 29 August. Taking place just two days before the Escapism Bank Holiday Battle arrives at Flo Skatepark, the event helps create one of the most exciting skate weekends the city has seen in some time.

Running from midday until 5pm at Rollersnakes on Mansfield Road, the jam will feature three new obstacles supplied by Enjoi, RAD Skateboarding and Derby’s own Heathen Skateboards. Element Skateboards and OJ Wheels are also supporting the event, with cash available for tricks landed on any of the new additions.

The cash-for-tricks format keeps everything simple and fast-moving. Rather than competing through formal heats or complete runs, skaters can choose an obstacle, attempt something ambitious and keep returning until they land it. It usually creates a lively atmosphere where the crowd gathers around each feature and becomes part of the action.

The involvement of several recognised skate brands gives the event plenty of weight, while Heathen and Rollersnakes ensure it remains firmly connected to Derby. Rollersnakes has supported generations of local skaters, and its warehouse remains an important meeting point for the city’s community.

The jam is also the opening half of a major weekend for Derby skateboarding. On Monday 31 August, the Escapism Bank Holiday Battle will take over Flo Skatepark with international guests, street, vert and freestyle competitions, an £8,000 cash prize pool and more than £11,000 in cash and products to be won.

Together, the two events showcase different sides of the scene. Rollersnakes offers an informal warehouse jam built around new obstacles and cash for individual tricks, while Escapism follows with a much larger competition at Flo. Local skaters can hit the Rollersnakes session on Saturday, recover on Sunday and head into one of the UK’s biggest skate events on Monday.

It is another encouraging sign for Derby’s growing skate culture. Flo’s successful launch earlier this year demonstrated the potential of its new city-centre home, while Rollersnakes continues to organise events and support the community it has helped build over several decades.

Hopefully, weekends like this become increasingly common. With Rollersnakes, Flo, local brands and independent organisers all creating opportunities, Derby now has the foundations for a busy year-round calendar capable of attracting skaters from across the Midlands and beyond.

The Cash Rules Everything Around Me Bank Holiday Jam takes place at Rollersnakes, Unit 7 Parker Industrial Estate, Mansfield Road, Derby, DE21 4SZ, on Saturday 29 August 2026 from midday until 5pm.
