The DENSSI Racing – BOE – Moto3 Team enjoyed a weekend of progress and promise at the Hungarian Grand Prix, the first-ever MotoGP World Championship round to be held at the all-new Balaton circuit. With the layout completely unknown to every rider on the grid, the team’s clear objective was to maximise track time, learn quickly, and close the gap to the leaders – a mission they delivered on across all sessions.

Building momentum through practice and qualifying

From the very first laps on Friday, both Cormac Buchanan and Ruche Moodley showed steady improvement as they adapted to the fast and technical Hungarian circuit. By Saturday morning, lap times had dropped by more than a full second compared to Friday, reflecting the team’s growing confidence and sharp focus.

In the highly competitive Q1 session, Buchanan impressed by finishing fifth, narrowly missing out on a coveted place in Q2 by just one position. Moodley was close behind, his best lap placing him just over a second off pole – a strong sign of progress compared to previous rounds.

Race day: resilience and near misses

Sunday’s race brought its own challenges, with the opening corners threatening the usual Moto3 chaos. Both DENSSI Racing – BOE – Moto3 riders kept calm under pressure, avoiding early incidents and settling into a solid rhythm.

As the leading group began to break away, Buchanan pushed hard to stay in contention for points. His pace was strong and consistent, but a late crash ended what had been one of his most promising rides of the season so far. Ironically, several riders in the same battle later crashed out, meaning Cormac could well have secured his first championship points – but luck was not on his side this time.

Moodley, meanwhile, rode a composed and intelligent race. Managing his pace and staying clear of trouble, the South African crossed the line in 16th place – agonisingly close to the points but showing the clear gains made by both rider and team.

Positive steps and looking ahead

While the final results may not reflect the true potential shown in Hungary, the DENSSI Racing – BOE – Moto3 Team leave Balaton with clear positives. The gap to the front has been reduced more than at any other race this year, underlining the progress made in both rider performance and bike set-up.

Armed with the experience of learning a brand-new circuit from scratch, the team now turns its attention to the next challenge – their eagerly awaited home Grand Prix. Confidence is high that the progress seen in Hungary can be carried forward, with the team determined to convert speed into results and fight for their first points of the 2025 season.
