The Standing Order is one of those pubs that quietly does exactly what it needs to do and does it well. Sitting right in the heart of Derby, this Wetherspoons is spacious, lively and reliably good value, making it a solid stop whether you are out early doors or settling in for a longer session.

Pints are firmly on the cheap end of the scale, with Bud Light coming in at just £1.99, which is hard to argue with in the current climate. Despite that, the atmosphere does not feel flat or soulless. On our visit it was lively without tipping into chaos, with a genuine mix of locals and younger drinkers giving the place a constant buzz.

The real standout here is seating. For such a busy pub, it was surprisingly easy to grab a comfortable booth, making it ideal for groups who want to actually sit and talk rather than hover awkwardly with pints in hand. Add in the large beer garden and you have a venue that works just as well in summer as it does on a cold Derby night.

Verdict: ★★★
A great Wetherspoons. Cheap drinks, plenty of space, a good atmosphere and one of the better layouts in town. Definitely one you would happily go back to.
