Discovering new voices within the local creative scene is one of the most rewarding parts of covering Derbyshire’s independent art…
By K Futur LOCALThe East Midlands continues to deliver some of the most exciting new alternative bands in the country and The Noisemakers Guild look set to join that growing wave with the release of their debut single The Story. Fantastically produced and packed with energy, the track manages to capture the band’s captivating live performance and bottle it in a way that feels immediate, raw and richly atmospheric. Available across all major streaming platforms, it has been on repeat here for days.
The Story is a clever fusion of influences that should not work on paper but absolutely does in practice. The chorus hits with a distinct Arctic Monkeys AM-era swagger, full of smoky nightclub confidence and sharp rhythmic punch. Yet the verses are rooted firmly in post-punk, driven by crunchy distorted guitars and a beat designed to get feet moving in a matter of seconds. Just as the track feels like it has reached its peak, it opens out into a beautifully executed Spanish-esque guitar solo that adds another layer of flair and finesse. The result is a song that asks whether folk, The Cure and Arctic Monkeys can coexist in one cohesive sound, and answers firmly in the affirmative.
Alongside the lead track, the band have also dropped a B-side titled Say Goodbye, a slower and moodier cut that demonstrates the range they already possess. It shuffles into life on a bed of sleazy, funky guitars that carry a distinct Smiths and Cure influence, threaded with a noir edge that would not feel out of place in a tense Tarantino film moment. The production is wonderfully controlled, letting the vocals glide over the top with a slight echo that enhances the atmosphere without ever distracting from the songwriting. Musically it is confident, stylish and quietly addictive.
With both tracks showcasing such impressive range, The Noisemakers Guild feel like a band ready to make serious noise across the region and beyond. Their sound is sharp, confident and fully formed, and it already feels tailor-made for the live environment. If these recordings are anything to go by, their upcoming shows are going to be unmissable.
