The March Violets

The March Violets come to The Hairy Dog in Derby on Thursday 5 November 2026, bringing their distinctive blend of post-punk and gothic rock. Formed in Leeds in 1981, the band emerged from the same scene as The Sisters of Mercy, with early support from John Peel and releases through Andrew Eldritch’s Merciful Release label. Tracks including ‘Snake Dance’ and ‘Walk into the Sun’ established their place in the British independent music scene.

Built around echo-drenched guitars, insistent drum-machine rhythms and dramatic vocals, their sound combines dark atmosphere with a pulse made for the dancefloor. Following their reunion and the release of Crocodile Promises in 2024, The March Violets continue to develop that sound, making this a chance for longstanding fans and curious newcomers to experience an original Leeds goth band up close.
