Ruts DC

Ruts DC come to The Hairy Dog in Derby on Thursday 12 November 2026, bringing their distinctive fusion of punk rock, reggae and dub. Their roots stretch back to The Ruts, formed in London in 1977, whose songs ‘Babylon’s Burning’, ‘Jah War’ and ‘Staring at the Rude Boys’ combined urgent guitars with powerful rhythms and sharp social commentary. Following the death of singer Malcolm Owen in 1980, the remaining members continued as Ruts DC, taking that musical blend into new territory.

Heavy basslines, fiery guitars and spacious dub grooves remain central to their sound, balancing punk’s intensity with reggae’s rhythmic pull. Their Derby show offers longstanding fans and newcomers the chance to experience a band whose music carries both political bite and a deep sense of groove, drawing on decades of boundary-crossing songwriting.
