Silk Mill Festival 2026 Brings Mr C of The Shamen to Derby for a Free Celebration of Music, History and Community

Derby’s Cathedral Green is set to come alive once again as the annual Silk Mill Festival returns in 2026, bringing together live music, speeches, community groups, family activities and a celebration of one of the most important moments in British labour history.

Organised by the Derby Area Trades Union Council, the free event commemorates the historic Silk Mill Lockout of 1833-34 while celebrating the continuing contribution of trade unions and working-class movements across the UK today.

This year’s festival looks set to be one of the most exciting yet, with legendary rave pioneer Mr C of The Shamen headlining the musical programme.

For many people of a certain generation, Mr C needs little introduction. As a member of The Shamen, he helped soundtrack the 1990s with massive hits including the iconic rave anthem “Ebeneezer Goode”, a track that became one of the defining songs of the decade and remains a staple of dance music culture today.
