Mexican Punk Meets Emerging Midlands Talent at The Vic Inn This August

Derby is getting an international dose of punk this August as Mexican all-female band Las Fokin Biches head to The Vic Inn alongside rising Nottinghamshire six-piece Aurastruck for the latest FLASH gig from Alpha Pro Creative and Fuzz Music Services.

Taking place on Thursday 20 August 2026, FLASH is built around catching emerging artists while they’re still playing small grassroots venues, bringing together the sort of bands beginning to pick up radio play, press coverage and festival appearances before the ticket prices inevitably start creeping upwards.

Travelling all the way from Irapuato, Guanajuato, Las Fokin Biches arrive in Derby with considerably more than a few gigs behind them. The all-female punk rock band have been active across Mexico for years, releasing records including ‘Relatos Siniestros Sólo para Dementes’ and 2020 album ‘Somos’, while their music has also appeared in the films ‘Eddie Reynolds y los Ángeles de Acero’ and ‘God Is a Bullet’.

Their work stretches beyond conventional venues too, with Las Fokin Biches performing everywhere from festivals and public squares to schools and prisons as part of their commitment to making culture more accessible. During the pandemic, the band also launched ‘Somos Chingonas’, an online programme created to showcase women artists and their projects. It all feeds into a band built around punk’s rebellious foundations while putting inclusion and cultural activism at the heart of what they do.

Joining them are Aurastruck, a young six-piece from Long Eaton combining punk rock with influences from gothic rock, riot grrrl and beyond. Fronted by vocalists Ivan and Keila alongside Winnie on guitar, Charlotte on bass, Katie on drums and Vincci on keyboard, the band use their music to amplify young queer and female voices while exploring the social and political issues affecting their generation. Passionate lyrics, strong aesthetics and plenty of live energy make them a fitting match for the night.

The grassroots approach continues offstage too. Supporting the show means directly supporting the artists, while neither the promoters nor The Vic Inn take commission from merchandise sales. With an established Mexican punk band meeting one of the East Midlands’ emerging young acts in a small Derby venue, this is exactly the sort of lineup FLASH is designed to bring to the city.
