Disney’s 20th Century Studios has announced that The Simpsons will return to cinemas on July 23, 2027 with a brand new film. The sequel arrives twenty years after the original Simpsons Movie, which became a global hit in 2007 and earned more than 536 million US dollars at the box office.

The reveal was made with a poster showing Homer Simpson reaching for a pink sprinkled doughnut marked with the number “2” alongside the tagline “Homer’s coming back for seconds.” The playful teaser has quickly sparked excitement among long time fans who have waited two decades to see Springfield back on the big screen.

Plot details are being kept secret, but the original voice cast is widely expected to return. Given the series’ reputation for celebrity cameos and sharp social commentary, many are predicting a mix of classic Simpsons humour with references to modern culture.

The television series remains strong, now in its thirty seventh season and renewed through to season forty. The new film is therefore not designed as a finale but as an additional milestone in the ongoing story of America’s most famous animated family.

With nostalgia for the show still running high and the success of the first film in mind, industry watchers believe The Simpsons Movie 2 could become one of the biggest animated releases of the decade.
