Right in the heart of Derby, the Old Bell Hotel delivers exactly what you want from a busy Saturday night pub-noise, laughter and a proper sense of atmosphere. This is not a quiet corner pint kind of place when it is in full swing. The main bar was packed, loud and lively, with that constant hum of conversation that tells you people are having a good time.

A pint of Pravha comes in at £5.30, putting it firmly in the mid-priced bracket for Derby city centre. Not the cheapest in town, but fair for the location and the overall feel of the place. Service was quick even with the bar heaving, and staff kept things moving without losing the friendly edge.

The crowd leans slightly older, but it is still a genuine mix-groups of mates, couples and regulars all blending together. It feels established without being stale.

The real standout here is the function and gig room tucked away at the back. A beautiful space that feels separate from the chaos of the main pub, it is easily one of the best back-room venues in Derby and a huge asset for live music and private events.

Verdict: ★★★
Packed, loud and full of character. Mid-priced pints, quick service and a standout gig space make the Old Bell Hotel well worth a stop on a Derby night out.
